Hello,
The installer now works very well. Since I use pppoeconf, after the
unsuccessful DHCP detect, I selected "no config at this time" and
proceeded with the rest of the install.
Upon booting, /etc/network/interfaces did indeed contain the loopback
interface, so that's fixed.
