Sorry folks, schoolboy error. Sure there was 8M of main memory free, but
the shm filesystem on / was full. Discovered the problem when trying the 4
Jan build today - the error reporting is better, and syslog recorded anna

hda183, reiserfs, 4 GByte
hda282, swap, 1 GByte
