Me once more. I've just found this link:

It explains some things but doesn't tell how to manage the kind
of boot problem I have. In section 6 they write about Debian.
In section 7 (SuSE) they mention that it also fails with a partition
check.

Hi,
I've got a new ATA100 hard disk and tried to install Debian 3.0 Woody
from new CD-ROMs I just bought. Unfortunately, the boot process doesn't
get any further than the messages below. The ATA seems to be recognized
and supported but not so the partition table. My hardware (only drives) is:
hda
Package: boot-floppy
Version: 3.0.23-2002-05-21
Contrary to the documentation, there is no "ide" folder in
