We're really strapped for space trying to fit all on a single floppy. We have
to carefully consider the 10k that using modprobe will cost us. Is it possible
for you to elaborate on why you don't want us to use insmod. We really only
need it to insmod a nic module, and after that we can grab any

I have figured out how to handle the kernel for debian-installer. I have
a package that will build a special flavor of the 2.4 kernel called
"2.4.0-di". It will make an kernel-image file, and all the module udebs.
I'm using a flavor for now to avoid stepping on any toes, once debian

Im not going to being any boot floppies work for a few weeks.
There is a proposal in debian new maint to effectively close the system
to NM again, i need to get away for a bit and think about my future

to clarify, the "fix" involves making some of the buffers used to read
device names (e.g. /dev/sda) bigger. (they are all PATH_MAX now instead
of some random number)

Thanks alot for your link Karl.
After a lot of repeated task, trial-and-error,
I can put them all work together now.
What I need after 2 days work is definitely taking a rest. :-)
$400 for Raid-1 with UDMA 100 anyone? :-)

There is no raid support for this card from the linux community.
http://www.linux-ide.org/
The Promise provide a driver but it is not obvious how to use it in
debian:

Hi,
Anybody know how to boot from Promise FastTrak100 using RAID feature?
I can install and boot using IDE UDMA 100 capability, but
cannot put RAID feature to work.
I'm appreciate if you can point me to some link
about this.
Thank you.

I meant to reply to your reply to my cvs log, alas, I'm too quick on the delete
key.
I don't think I'm using an initrd, the kernel is extracting the root filesystem
from the floppy itself, the boot loader isn't extracting it. Note the 'I don't
think', I never made a boot disk before a few hours
The system dies right before, or right after calling, or trying to call init. I
expect something with the prototype filesystem (rootfs/ that I just added) is wrong.
I did try the prototype root filesystem from boot-floopies too and it didn't
work either, so my problem may be something else.
