You may want to try the potato (2.2) boot-floppies. Try the idepci flavor.

Well, we do suggest in the top-level README to use bs=1024. But the
Install Manual is lagging; I've changed it in the Install Manual as
well and mark this bug as closable in the next version.
I had a thinkpad 3520 I think which I got rid of but I don't think I
