I've experiencing some problems with the kernel, under high load
(copying a big file over nfs to a crypted filesystem)
Some more infos/observations: (random order)
- kernel nfs server
- file to be copied is 100G, copied with dd-rescue (does not complete)
- using a hifn 765x crypto accelerato

to the correct root.

card for my arm-based thecus n2100, running debian. There is a driver
for the chip -- a hifn 7955 -- in the kernel-sources.

filesystem issue
I guess, that you'll need a serial console.
Without, you can only guess, where it stuck, like did it access the
disks and so...
If it gets that far, you probably could check the logs, as it might
logged something of interest.

in-between, I only changed /etc/fstab.
Also -- at least in my case -- it was sufficient to try to mount *some*
filesystem, not necessarly the rootfs. (Maybe, Stuart, can you try this

my thecus n2100 also stopped booting when trying to mont a memory stick
to /media/sth via fstab and UUID.
Someone should file a bug against .. Well, that was actually the
problem: I do not know excatly what causedit (=whom to "blame"), but I
did not find time.
Maybe you could investigate?

I had the same at my thecus some time ago... However, in my case this
was caused by trying to mount something using UUIDs. If you changed your
fstab, you should check if this is the cause
