I don't see what that would buy us since a) you'll still need to do
some manual steps and b) it would only work if the size of the usb
stick / hard drive was known.
I was imagining that one could use a 2GB disk image. That is probably
plenty of space for Debian, given nobody is going to be insta

I can verify that there are still issues with the RC2 Installer if you
do not preformat the Flash drive beforehand.
Would it be helpful for me to put an nslu2 disk image online? That
way people could pre-burn their USB flash drive from a desktop
computer and skip a bunch of the installer steps.
I bought another nslu2 yesterday, and a 4GB USB flash drive. Absolute
disaster; every combination I tried ended up failing, usually while
installing the base system. Fiddled with the etch RC2 installer, armel
installer, automatic vs manual partitioning, etc.
Today I threw out the memory stick (it
