I've been experiencing the same problems and tracking this bug/issue for some time. I wasn't going to send an email but I just noticed that on the day that apache-ssl crashed for me, Robin Edgar sends a email into this bug. I will include my my apache error log and syslog from about that time. I

`/usr/sbin/apachectl graceful` stops apache, then apparently writes the /var/run/apache.pid file, then fails to start apache or give an error. `/etc/init.d/apache start` then gives the following in the error.log [Wed Mar 2 13:36:34 2005] [warn] pid file /var/run/apache.pid overwritten -- Uncle

I've been experiencing this since febuary 28th, but only on a high volume web server. It was definitely in the logrotation. Oddly enough doing a `logrotate -f -v /etc/logrotate.d/apache` showed that it wasn't actually doing the shared endscripts. When doing it with a -f -d -v however, it did run th
