I logged into my computer by pressing Ctrl plus Alt plus F2 key to open
a new console session.
I logged in as root and gave my root password.
Then I gave the command:
passwd username
Where username is my username and I followed the prompts.
It worked! Slick this Debian stuff.

Open a console, log in as root then give the command: passwd
followed by your username then follow the instructions on the screen to
change your password on your user account.
