Hi. The CVS of gnopernicus and gnome-speech fix some of the problems
you are still having.
The fact you don't get much information now is because bugs with
gnopernicus werent't fixed until the latest CVS. If you update to the
latest CVS, you will get a lot more information from gnopernicus and
Gn

It seems the activation of the /desktop/gnome/interface/accessibility gconf
key did it! Gnopernicus now speaks its internal menus,
and even launching other GNOME apps seems to sort of work.
