This may be a little help, for a mechanical disk it took about 45
seconds for the disk to do its first spin up then stop. With flash
drives that are not mechanical 30 seconds might work.

Thanks, I didn't even know that was possible just using bios. I wonder

Too complex to do with the tools we are using indeed. ATM the Debian CD
uses syslinux, which does not have
it cannot be redirected to a soundcard.
however theres also another solution
it depends on motherboard and bios options.
with a help of a sighted person, i enabled "beep sound at boot
installation" on my bios so whenever a boot screen comes up my computer
amits a familiar beeping sound.

Probably too complex to do, but if a pc speaker isn't available could a
beep be redirected to a machine's default sound card?

Why does the beep come and go with different revisions?
Tell someone to stop removing it!

This doesn't help, unfortunately, if the USB drive referred to turns out to be
All I did was to use wodim to burn the iso. When I got a usable dvd in
the drive everything worked the first time. You may have run into a
bunch of Chinese Specials in terms of DVD's, these look like they'll
work but bomb out and turn into coasters.

Hi,
I think I am having bigger problems than just the release.
I have a Lenovo idea pad u310
Dual booting windows seven and vinux 3.2 which is based on ubuntu 11.04.
Both OS are amd64 and run alright.
Now I want to replace ubuntu with debian.
I downloaded the first dvd of rc2 and in ubuntu ha
Hi Samuel,
I have a hard drive reserved for rc3 when it becomes available to test

I tried it on my amd k8 athelon system. The installation was very smooth,
but that's not all I have to report. As part of the packages to install,
I chose the desktop environment. While that environment installed

Hi,
Is there no software speech support for the full debian dvds?
I downloaded all 10 of them and when I start from the first one there is
no beep and no speech.
Does speech only work on the net install? This doesn't make sense.
I am trying to install last week's weekly build of testing...

Hello,
This will most probably be the final release, please test it so we can
write any errata before releasing the first official Debian version that
includes software speech synthesis :)
