But maybe you shouldn't give up the simplest, "blind'ish" solution
(brltty_3.5 w/ a Recommonds: flite) if compliant.
ps.: oh I know, what about libs?... Well, they have to closely follow
what they were provided w/, haven't they? So no
"apt-get install aptitude". It's
interactive UI uses ncurses, but cursor keeps on being acurate (far
better than dselect's one).

When Debian is installed, you do what you want :-) I suggest you take
the kernel config file into your brand-new sid and then recompile the
kernel with "the debian way" (
es. It is
possible to "mix" different versions, etc.
There is notes about it in apt-howto (sections 3.8, 3.9, 3.10)
available from www.debian.org/doc/manuals/.
