Um, well, my guess on how to disable the loading of the keymap in /etc
would be to move the contents of /etc/console so boottime.kmap.gz can't
be found. My suspicion is that this is probably not correct

I had (and have) keyboard issue on A2000 with 2.6.8.1.
If the keyboard was working I would say that everything seems OK.
