Looks like you may be right on. Had tried to compress the images stored
on nfs server. Looks like some didn't get compressed so I wasn't
actually copying the partition to the new disk. Odd.
Running a few more trials ... current test is looking positive so far.

You probably don't have proper driver partitions on the disk when

Copy works fine.
