rather than by the shell script.
I rebuilt again with the ln-s for binutils, and this didn't happen, because
one never gets to that part of the condition for AR_FOR_TARGET. So there is
still a bug there, but

OS=`uname -s`. Thoughts?
Hmm. It didn't occur that $OS was from NT. Good point.
I will just be avoiding $OS, and use another name.
I think that OS=`uname -s` is a reasonable thing to do.
