Actually it seems to be just 'cls -l' that causes the fault.
I just reported this upstream, but now I've also just tried it on my Debian
box and I can't reproduce it there. So it seems like maybe a Cygwin bug.

What terminal are you using? Not DOS by any chance?
/usr/share/doc/screen/README.Cygwin warns that if you're using a DOS
terminal, you must set CYGWIN=tty before starting your terminal, or you'll

set up to always show the list of tabs on the bottom line, with the current tab

No, the package is not dead. Cygwin has the latest release, version 4.0.3, and
I'm not aware of any current problem reports on it.

I've recompiled screen for Cygwin 1.7. It runs fine until I do the following:
* Open a cmd console and run c:\cygwin-1.7\bin\bash.exe --login .
* Start a new screen session (screen).
* Detach the screen session (C-a d).
* Exit bash.
* Try to start bash again.
Then I get:
3 [main] bash 212
I'm running Cygwin 1.7.0-29. cygcheck gives no useful output at all:
$ cygcheck -srv
