is there any special action that setup.exe performs during installation
in addition to download and copy files to specific dir?

It does not look like a download issue. I tried downloading whole GNOME
several times on several computers and each time setup failed with the
same error. I also tried deleting all downloaded from CygwinPorts
(sunsite) files.
After some experimenting it looks like their configuration breaks

If setup.exe is not supported for other projects, maybe they should not
even try using Cygwin setup, but who am I to tell how things are done
here... I will resend my complain to cygwin-apps mailing list.

I still don't see why upstream refuses to update a compressed archive, but
at least it didn't abort.
Gnu tar will not allow the use of '-r or -u' when a tar file is given on
stdin.
I assume that compressed archives work using tar as a filter, instead of
using potentially huge temporary files

I'm wondering whether anyone have used gcc under cygwin (windows xp) to compile
and link the db2 udb sample c/cpp programs successfully? I'd appreciate if you
could share the steps and command syntax. Under Linux, it is very simple and I

effect that may be an acceptable compromise to you.
