I upgraded Cygwin, as advised, but it still didn't work. Since then I've been using cmd. However, today I discovered the solution: for some reason, I have to specify /bin/bash or /usr/bin/bash instead of bash. This is strange, because bash exists nowhere else in my PATH (only /bin/bash and /usr/bin
