I've done what you say: I made ftp a member of users group and changed the proftpd.conf as described by you but still have the same result and of course this time even nobody could not work as an anonymous a/c either but still all other user a/c work as before. Since I've got no other version

I've created a nobody a/c, an ftp a/c and a nogroup group in my w2k3. The nobody a/c is with a password "nobody" and the ftp a/c a password "ftp". Both of them are members of the nogroup. I've updated the /etc/password by mkpasswd -l > /etc/passwd too afterwards. ===
