later, it seems that ping crashes with
segmentation fault in the above case, as you reported.
With cygwin 2.10.0, ping does not cause segmentation fault.
I will look into this problem.

are up to date. What am I missing? At any rate, I guess it should not have
crashed ungracefully if it needs something it doesn't have (
