I notice another thing about when the errors begin to cascade; the ps command fails also momentarily, then works again! Here is what I could see in two terminal windows; the first was running the command "./configure --with-perl=/usr/bin/perl --enable-shared" in /usr/local/src/ImageMagick-5.
