After checking /var/log/setup.log.full I saw the issue was related to missing
packages. I worked around them by selecting two additional items to be
installed as part of the base installation. In the X11 section select
desktop-file-utils and shared-mime-info. This will trigger a few additional

I started the latest setup.exe (version 2.774), clicked Next,Next,Next
(aka "update my cygwin installation", a less clicking way would be
welcome) and at the end it printed:
