Just to let you know that my issue could be solved following the
advise from Herrn Kampe. That is, I could write
rem @echo off
start c:\Progra~1\Google\Google~1\googletalk.exe /startmenu
start c:\Progra~1\Wxi86f~1\Messen~1\msnmsgr.exe
in the bat file, to get what I need.

2. keep the applications running
3. let the batch file itself exit without any trace.
