Is there a way to synchronize the Cygwin $PATH with the Windows Path,
so that I can run Windows applications from within my Bash shell (i.e.
typing "mathematica" will open the corresponding file, which is in
Program Files somewhere)?

Is it advisable to edit one's .bashrc? I'd like to put in a bunch of
customizations, aliases, etc., but I'm intimidated by the message
saying that my .bashrc will not be updated by setup.exe if I modify
it. Does this mean that I'll have to put in changes for new programs

If I already have a program, such as Emacs, that comes with Cygwin,
should I keep my own version, or get the Cygwin version? (The shell
doesn't recognize the 'emacs' command, but I presume I can fix that by
changing my $PATH). Are there any other advantages to the Cygwin
versions?

Thanks. The thing is, when I look at the "full" or "not installed"
view in setup.exe, I can't find the packages I want to install.
Clicking on "Math" in category view doesn't expand the view, for
instance. I remember seeing emacs somewhere, too, but it isn't in

I just installed Cygwin, and cannot find many of the packages I'm
interested in installing -- such as WordNet and TeXmacs -- in
setup.exe. I installed only the default packages the first time. What
am I doing wrong? TIA.
