under windows2000 the tool you might use is netsh.exe.
It's a kind of a scripting interface to network parameters
by doing
netsh interface dump
you get the current configuration, which you can alter to your needs
(IP, gateway, DHCP yes/no, DNS, WINS etc)
save the configuration to a file

Yes, it works.
I have always done it this way. The complete cygwin distribution
without sources and only selecting [curr] downloads about 250MB
which fits without problems onto a CD.
You have to be careful, that you really download ALL packages
to a seperate directory, not only those that have a m
