Hi
I am trying to connect to a remote (on local lan) postgresql server
using cygwin.
When I try to run the psql program I am getting no results (no messages
at all)
i am runing the version in /usr/bin
even if I try using the -V option I get no output...
Cheers

If you still use Emacs' original Rmail with POP under Cygwin, you may
have noticed that it doesn't work. The reason is that Rmail tries to
create a file with a ":" in its name, which Cygwin can't do. A simple
remedy is to edit rmail.el as follows:
*** /usr/share/emacs/21.2/lisp/mail/rmail.elF
Hi All,
I read the tip here for using vim in server mode so that any new files
you open in vim will go to the same vim instance in a new tab:

The --servername options doesn't work on my Cygwin vim. Is there any

Dear cygwin maintainers -- While I saw a lot of things around the web
concerning rebase, not being able to fork, etc., I was not able to get
to the bottom of this problem or work around it. The details:
From bash, I cannot run cvs. It fails to fork after giving my a number

I've tried looking for a Binary distribution of PHP that will work with
Apache 1 under cygwin. I bought a program thinking I HAD PHP but
discovered later that my current server had no PHP support.
I'm resorting to binary distributions because I can't seem to to compile
PHP or Apache 2 sources
Hi,
I'm not sure if this is a Perl module or Cygwin specific problem, so I'll
try here first. Anyone got any idea what's going wrong here?:
I have perl 5.10.0 installed in cygwin, and I'm getting an error trying to
install the Proc::Background module for it. I downloaded the module from

Can I request that people prepend their email subjects concerning Cygwin
1.7 with a [1.7]? That will make it immediately obvious when we're
talking about the new release.
In fact adding a standard word after the 1.7 would also allow easier

I have tested the patch below and it works. My next question is how do I
repackage it so that it will now install. I tried just retarring the csih
directory but it does not install as I am assuming the checksum is different
and don't know how to recreate it. Can someone please lend a hand? I
I have a small suggestion concerning mount -m. According to the user's
guide, mount -m is supposed to produce output that can be pasted into
/etc/fstab. This would be easier if mount -m printed forward slashes in
windows paths instead of backslashes.

Dear Volker,
thanks for your reply.
It must be an interference with the ghostscript-x11
package from cygwin-ports.sf.net that I have installed.
This package is at 8.62, and update-alternatives selects
gs-x11.exe from that package.

Do we have a definite fix that can posted yet? I am at a state that I would

Not the right forum, if you're thinking of adding non-portable stuff, or
you depend on stuff not supported by VC.

Hi All,
I've migrated (new install directory; registry remained from the 1.5
install) my work machine to the 1.7 dlls but I'm having a problem which is
proving hard to track.
My passwd file has...

Hi all,
I am not sure if this is the right forum to ask this question, but how
do I port applications from Linux environment to windows vc++?
Assume I have only the C source codes, which do not use any system calls
at all. But what about the header files? And Compiler difference?
What all should

For us old-timers, what were the historical reasons again, and why/how did
they go away?
