I am trying to setup a cluster with 4 nodes and I followed all the steps listed

except the /etc/hosts step. But for some reason the number of datanodes is

I am trying to execute the example wordcount application on a cluster in my
University's lab. Since I don't have write access to the /etc/hosts file (and
the admin won't allow me to add entries for each node in the cluster), I am
using the IP address of each node in all of Hadoop's conf

I am a newbie and trying to learn the Hadoop internals. I have got a few
questions on something that I am trying to implement. I am still in the
learning process, so these questions may seem silly or may even be entirely
wrong, any guidance is highly appreciated.
