Hi Eli,
I'm a student too interested in taking up a hadoop task as a gsoc project.
There are JIRA tickets tagged explicitly as gsoc so I wanted to discuss a
few ideas before deciding to take up a particular task.
I had asked the list earlier and got no replies on it.

Hi,
I'm Varun Thacker , a Computer Science student from Manipal Institute
of Technology , India. This might be a bit late but I hope I can find
an idea and a mentor to work on as a GSOC project.
I have worked a bit on MapReduce and gave a talk on it at

unresolved issues while i was doing my
research, and i thought, maybe it would be a good challange as a GSOC
project, and a great chance to get more familiar with the hadoop
internals.
As far as i know Google's solution for storing static configuration is
Chubby. Hadoop currently suggests man
