A few of observations:
- Windows has actually been a supported platform for Hadoop since 0.1 . Doug
championed supporting windows then and we've continued to do it with varying
vigor over time. To my knowledge we've never made a decision to drop windows
support. The change

thinking? You could implement this as a new framework rather then
trying to incrementally change map-reduce.

Let's not push out the general freeze even as far as sept 4th if
possible. I'd suggest oct 31st. If we push out the general freeze
until append is complete, we will delay having a stable release with
append at least an additional month.
