+1 for Steve's and Chris's sentiments. Mass reformatting of existing code can
make maintaining anything released prior to the makeover very difficult.
Almost all of Apache Hadoop's users are not on trunk or branch-2, and I'm not
sure we want large refactoring patches going into stability lines

coming up (which I need fix later), the build process doesn't complain for
too long command line any more.

Is Jenkins even building these? I don’t see org.apache.hadoop.example listed

It might be problem with maven repo path, may be you can change to shorter path
and check once.
Example:
mvn clean install -DskipTests -Dmaven.repo.local=C:\MavenRepo
