[CODE4LIB] WordPress blogs, and training generative AI

Hello, I’ve seen some reporting on WordPress (and Tumblr) potentially selling access to their users’ content for training generative AI. When I checked my personal WordPress blog, lo and behold there was a new option to “opt out” of this, though with a pretty feeble assurance that they would re

I have to express some general frustration here I think it is very poor practice for ANY conference [stares at DLF] to open registration before a final schedule of events / speakers / sessions is distributed. Many of us have limited professional development funding and need to base our choices

I will second this. I was waiting to see what topics would be covered at the conference, and while it is enviable that CODE4LIB has enough popularity to fill up blind, it's not exactly ethical to tie up participants' funds while they wait to find out whether or not the conference is going to mee

I stand corrected. The schedule merely looked like it had empty placeholders because the links on the schedule page look like headers. I retract what I said earlier. Keith Engwall, MSLIS (he/him/his) Systems Librarian DePaul University Library 2350 N. Kenmore, 215F | Chicago, IL 60614 Tel: (

Hi, This is a legitimate frustration. I've been in this position, too. I think it's a product of being a small organization. The Open Repositories of the world are big enough that they can accommodate a lot more people and can keep registration open a lot longer. -Carol On Fri, Mar 1, 2024 at 1
