Searching "bezier path simplify" turned up some interesting results, like this

Since you have no curves this may be overkill, but I'm sure there's an
algorithm out there somewhere for non-intersecting rectangles.

I believe that's what you get if you specify the NSColorPanelWheelModeMask for
the picker mask. Since there is only one mode available it doesn't need to
display the toolbar.
