Steve,
You should be rendering using NSLayoutManager instead of -drawInRect:. The
method is handling NSTextStorage just as a mere NSAttributedString ignoring the
rest of objects connected.
Check out the documentation for -[NSLayoutManager
drawGlyphsInGlyphRange:atPoint:].
