There is no simple answer to this.
I’ll start with the easy part – for *non life-cycle cost* issues, flooded loses
big time.
We used to have flooded batteries and during Hurricane Charlie one of them
broke open. The smell was an extra special treat and then some and that is

I have two Group 27's Great Northern deep cycle batteries that have just
seen their 11th season of use.leave them on the boat over the winter.
Time to get new ones but they just keep on going.

Rob,
What is your winter procedure to get such long life? I have been removing my 3
flooded batteries and storing them in my garage, giving them a monthly charge

Flooded since day 1. But I use golf cart (or sweeper if I can get them) 6 volt
batteries that are both inexpensive and robust.I fortunately have the
headroom for such batteries in the cockpit locker. Shelf has been reinforced
for added load.
And they stay in boat all winter. Charge them
Brian,
I used to do that (removed the batteries, take them home, etc.), but
apparently, if they are properly charged, they would last the whole winter. If
anything, the low temperatures are good for their health. If they are not self
discharging, they would not freeze. make sure, though, that t

I'm not sure where you are located. How cold are your winters
The colder the winter the less often you need to recharge the batteries
over winter (this is assuming you do no ever use the batteries when they
are cold). This also assumes you start the storage period with the
batteries fully charged.
Hello all,
While headed up the river to take Zella (35-3) out for the season (yes, I
know it's early) I hit some sort of underwater obstruction at about 4kts.
Took a chunk out of the keel with it as you can see in the photo. Any
suggestions on how to repair? Just clean up the edges and fill it wit
No picture but the repair should be simple.
1. Grind out the gouge and margins to bright lead
2. Immediately apply neat (unthickened) epoxy by rubbing it on with a
ScotchBrite pad. This will remove any surface oxidation and coat the lead
with epoxy.
3. Fill the with epoxy thickene
I have a 40w panel that keeps the batteries topped off too.

Hi there,
Not exactly what you're looking for but I laboured over the flexible / rigid
panel installation and finally went with flexible. I thought others may be
interested also.
- 2 x 100 watt panels
- 2 x nylon straps pulled tight side to side over the bimini
- panel edges protected covered
Any pictures??

Hi all,
We were headed out for the last race of the season Saturday and as we loaded
up the main for the first time, the fitting on the boom that attaches to
the main sheet snapped off our 30-2. This was a single eye attached to a
plate riveted to the inside of the boom. I suspect this proba
Hi Everyone,
been following the folding prop thread with interest. I had a Michegan
Sailor 16 x 10 R fixed prop for 10 years. It was fine for all purposes
except sailing where it was like towing a drogue. I changed this year to a
FlexoFold 16 x 11 and my observations are these:

Why not consider a strong webbing type strap with sewn loops on each end?--can
be very strong, cheap and indestructible. I have been using the same one on

Charlie,
That is an interesting thought! How do you keep yours from slipping down the
boom? How wide would you say the webbing is?
Thanks,
Jim

In each of the cases noted about Flex o Fold, are we talking about the 3 blade
or two blade models? The recommend a 3 blade for my 37/40 with a Yanmar

I have a C&C 35-3 and moved my traveler aft off the doghouse to behind the
companionway. My sailmaker made a strop made of amsteel. Super strong. I simply
tied a thin line from end of boom to strop to keep it from sliding forward.
Works great.
