I have an Airmar CS4500 which was installed in 2013. Airmar has newer models
(ST800, ST850, UST800 & UST850). It is through the hull and when viewed from
the outside looks like a depth transducer. See:

I was told by a sailmaker that oxyclean is safe for dacron sails. He also said
that after applying some with the detergent, let it sit for a while before
rinsing. We did that and gotout the vast majority of the stains.

Getting the sails professionally maintained is always a good idea. Some laces
do more than just clean and re-stitch as necessary. Some can re-impregnate to
give you more life to the sail.
