With my mast out for the winter, I am thinking of replaces the sheaves at the
masthead. Being a new owner of my 35 mkiii and not wanting to screw up the
present halyard operation, is it as easy as unscrewing the Phillip screw,
remove metal tab, pull out metal spindle and remove and replace the
Don, the owner of Cinkel was Jim Thoman. After Cinkel closed he had a company
called Spindleworks. He was a good resource, and if anyone on the list knows
his whereabouts, it may be a benefit to the list. Cinkel made my mast also
right after yours. 41 C/B #96.

Yep pretty much as easy as you described. You may find that the fit is
tight enough that you need a punch or screw driver through the smaller hole
on the other side to push the pin out.
Ed Louchard at Zephyrwerks makes a great product and is willing to take

Not that it helps but my mast was made by Offshore Spars. I know because
there is a vinyl graphic about 8 or 9 feet off the deck. You might find
some type of similar marking if you look.
I can't recall exactly where I saw it (APS maybe?) but there was a place
which had many cut off mast extrusio
Easy unless it's not - which I find is true of most boat projects.
Old boat, old mast, I found my clevis pin was quite stuck / seized and the
cover plate sheared off. My mast didn't have an opposing hole (not sure if
yours does).
I wrote about this in this blog post:

You don't have to remove the top plate. Take the tension off the halyards,
or the sheaves will get pulled down into the mast. Turn the mast so the
sheaves are facing down. If the spindle is attached to the metal tab (not
all of mine were), just pull it out, remove the old sheave and insert the

If your mast was built by Offshore Spars they still stock most of the

I Googled Jim Thoman - Cinkel and see that he has a Linked-In profile.
"President and General Manager" Cinkel Yacht Steering Systems and Spars from
Feb 1976 to Sept 1987. Now "Grass Land Manager" at Farmer Jims Grass Fed Beef.
That's a switch.

Grab a coffee and get comfortable, here is a bit of Saturday morning
reading for you.
Below is a link to another of my occasional histories of remarkable C&C

involved in that are remarkable, in others it is the owners.

Here is us passing Third Wave. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
OK, he just passed us, but our kite looks better.
