I got a plug and socket for a trolling motor for the solar panel.

Just *FYI*, a transponder transmits AIS info as well as receives. You all have
been talking about AIS receivers.

I am a C & C 36 owner and currently have a 135% and 155% for headsails. For
those 36 owners, is a 100% considered the next size down for heavier air?
Any thoughts , comments would be greatly appreciated.

I bought two of the 20W amorphous panels on sale at Canadian Tire, and
wired them to a Coleman controller belowdecks. They retail for $120, I got
them on sale for $60 each. I figured they would be a good addition for
charging while at anchor.

I installed a West Marine AIS-1000 on our C&C 44 in summer 2011 in
preparation for our year long trip down the US east coast to the Caribbean
and back.
At the time the West Marine unit was significantly less expensive than
other units, in some case less than half the price.
It has worked flawlessly
I have a single 20 watt (nominal) panel laying on top of my sliding
hatch. What it does, and does very well, is top up the charge of my
batteries during time when I am not on the boat to 100%, and hold them
there. Most people are never aware, but their batteries seldom get
charged that last 5-1

A word of warning. If you have a Raymarine Sea Talk ng instrument system,
such as their new I 70 mfd’s, it will only work with a Raymarine AIS. The
class A is $1000 and the B is $500. I only learned this after trying to get
my Std Horizon AIS to talk to my new instruments. Bumme
I agree with Bill on that. A proper charge regulator for solar cells will do
just that. I have a similar arrangement that has been running for 5 years with
a semi-flexible 20 watt solar panel over the forward hatch. At first I just
used one regulator, running the panel output to the two batte
I know that, Bill. I figured my batteries would last longer if I kept some
form of charge going in; I wanted the panels to be a reasonable contributor
of amps for the hassle involved, and they just didn't work that way.
I was going to use one of the panels as a battery maintainer in the summer
when
And that last 5-10% is quite important, if you want to keep your batteries
for more than one or two seasons. Especially if you have the AGM batteries.

Or you could get a Xantrex echo charger or blue sea ACR (auto charge
relay). (for charging two batteries)

Sounds like a good time to upgrade my mainsheet.
Does anyone know offhand the length of the mainsheet for a 34? I won't be able
to get to the boat to measure today.

You can try looking at cajun ropes, they have packages for every boat
including our C&Cs and I believe they list all the lengths.

I have a C80 MFD, ST 60+ instrument displays, Autohelm depthsounder and ST50

That sounds like the solenoid stuck if it wouldn't even click. Take off the starter (solenoid is on the starter) and get it reconditioned.
I have heard, although I have not personally explored, that Yanmar engines are

purchasing parts, such as a starter solenoid can be significantly less

Solenoid did not click? Any noises? Did ammeter needle kick?
Might be the solenoid or just be a bad starter switch or connection:
Find your starter and find four terminals. two small ones are the button
circuit. The two bigger ones have heavy battery wires attached.

I'd be inclined to clean connections before I started turning wrenches.
I always try to eliminate the easy stuff first and 9 times out of 10 it's just
