The luff is basically a solid, heavy sailcloth extension of the old luff. The red webbing is stitched over the top, with a D-ring at one end and a large bronze piston hank at the other. You wrap the "extension" around the furled headsail (and its sheets), and clip the piston hanks to the D-rin
