The luff is basically a solid, heavy sailcloth extension of the old luff. The
red webbing is stitched over the top, with a D-ring at one end and a large
bronze piston hank at the other. You wrap the "extension" around the furled
headsail (and its sheets), and clip the piston hanks to the D-rin
teak and Gale Sail [was Splash and no messages]
ATN did the conversion. This was several years ago; I discussed it with
Etienne at the Chicago boat show. At the time, the charge was $20 per foot
of luff for the conversion; he charged me the boat show price of $18 per
foot.
