I had an A-4 on my C&C 34 and had the alternator rebuilt by a local shop.
Worked great -- no issues.

I have an old A-4... Alternator failed a couple of years ago (might have
just been the built in voltage regulator as it overcharged greatly).
I had it rebuilt and the rebuilder assured me that he rebuilt to the marine
standard. He also noted that it was a very standard alternator available

The point is that not all alternators are safe for use with gasoline present.
Mounting is a very secondary consideration! :-)

Jack,
I buy a lot of boat stuff off Amazon. Usually cheaper than Defender or
Fawcetts. If Prime, free shipping.
When I needed a hot water heater I googled the part number and found the exact
unit at an RV store for $50

When I needed a hot water heater I googled the part number and found the
exact unit at an RV store for $50 less than any chandlery. Money is finite!
