Well the recent Kidde recall got me to checking my fire extinguishers. I have 6
onboard. One was dated 1977 and another 1984. I’m willing to donate them to
anyone that wants them, you pay the shipping. LOL

They'll replace any and all that are on the replacement list. No limit. No
questions asked. I replaced two that I bought at Home Depot.

It was discussed but we may have new listers since then.
It's fairly easy. Have your extinguisher handy and go here:
https://www.kidde.com/home-safety/en/us/support/product-alerts/recall-kidde-fire-extinguisher/
Enter the model number and serial number to see if your extinguisher is
recalled.
I don't know if this has been brought up before, but please check if you
have Kidde with plastic handles. These have all been recalled and you can
get replacements for free.

I did find this. It's not recertification but a yearly maintenance tag. Six of

Hi Mike,
Have you owned the boat for 15 years? As a broker its a running joke with
surveyors- you check the fire extinguishers to find out when the boat sold last.

Hi Mike,
A good way to dispose of the extinguisher is to use it in practise on
a fire built for the purpose, preferably with the direction of
someone who has some experience. There is basic technique that is
more effective than waving the thing around.
Then use a shop to recharge & certify o
Interesting discussion...i changed out my extinguishers this summer because
they were 15 years old.
Does anyone know how to properly dispose of old extinguishers that are still
charged??

Be aware that the white "marine" extinguishers are completely identical
in all ways to the ones at home depot except for the color. All of the

Saw a recent article on a sailor getting cited by USCG for an expired fire
extinguisher. I didn't know they expired. I don't think it's actually in
the USCG regs, it's in NFPA 10, "Standards for Portable Fire
