Hi James, Another source for the "chonking" sound is up & down movement of the rudder. I get this on some reaches and downwind legs with a short steep swell. It took me awhile before I found the rudder stock moving up & down by about 3/8". My fix will be to adjusted the stop collar below the

All - wondering if anyone has had a similar experience and what they did or do to alleviate the stress to the rudder/quadrant etc. We moor our C&C34 on the Hudson at pier 25 which typically has 3 ft swells rollin in caused by the ferry , cruise line and sightseeing traffic. It is an ideal mooring
