Bruce, I have the same pump as you. I don't think it uses enough power to worry
about when checking for water, the pump motor doesn't run, it only powers a
sensor. It also has a test button. I like the small size with relatively large
capacity. Float systems have disadvantages, they can fail too

Check valves are designed for preventing instantaneous backflow.
Pretty much all of them will eventually leak the water back into the bilge,

The nice thing is that it can handle up to 8 (IIRC) different little

Very low flow rate though so it is just a finishing touch type of system.

The 35-1 has a very shallow bilge with a small volume sump just behind and
under the mast step. Touche' has a 1500 GPH Rule bilge pump tucked tightly
into a space behind the mast step. It's a tight fit.
With a large capacity pump and a small volume bilge, the issue of pump
cycling is very real.

Your electronic bilge pump switch shouldn't be mounted to the bottom of the
bilge. Try lifting it a bit to see whether it solves your problem. If the
sensor on the switch is always in the water, it will never shut off, and the
bilge pump might not be getting the water low enough. These sw
