I am looking at a Laser 28. Still reasonable headroom. PHRF about the same as
the C&C. I like the Andrews , but it is a little pricy.

I had to upsize to a 1.5" guard when I put new instruments at the
helm. (Radar, plotter, wind, depth, speedo, and autopilot head).
Seemed like a big waste money at the time, but in retrospect, I'm glad
I did it.
If you plan on having the boat for a while, it's probably worth doing.

Remove the Binnacle guard leaving the floor mounts in place and drill holes
through the cockpit floor for the wires. Keep insides of mounts clean so

and then filled with epoxy to seal any coring and then drilled the size for
To run wires through the guard would need changing the feet from single bolt
style to the two bolt kind. The single bolt style has the bolt inside the
tubing while the two bolt style places the bolts outside, so you can run wires
up inside. Pricey but might be worth it if you want to hide the wi
Does your pedestal guard tube not have an aluminum casting with two bolts
through the deck at the foot each side? If so. Loosen up the guard at the
binnacle, lift it up and you should be able to drill holes through the cockpit
sole in the hole in the castings. You can then route cables down the

you'll need a coat hanger or electrician's fish tape and a helper.
I'd also run a messenger line to make the next one easier.

The pedestal guard should run through the deck into the bilge. You
can run a couple wires through each tube. If you are runnng NMEA 2000
devices it is a PIA but doable. The other option is to get waterproof
clamps from Blue Seas or others and drill through the deck.

I am getting ready to fully wire my Chartplotter/depth/ to power, depth
transducer, and Ais GPS that is located down below.
There is not enough room to go through the pedestal as the autopilot and
engine cables are taking up most of the space and I don't want anything to
get tangled.
The pedestal

Right now Touché is beam reaching eastbound in Mississippi Sound off Biloxi at

I took first in fleet in the 60+ boat Caribbean 1500 twice in a row in
ketches. First, in a friend's HR49 ketch in 2008
I use artists acrylic paint, the stuff in the tubes. The colour match is good
and the paint sticks like poop on a baby blanket.
