At 11:37pm the fattening crescent moon set behind the dark form of the
Bruce Peninsula five miles to the west. With only a few lights on the
distant shore, the Milky Way shone brightly, revealing the details of
whorls and swirls and the expansive star-riddled sky rarely seen by land
lubbers.
Jonathan,
The pipe and fittings are polybutylene which was used extensively between the
70's and mid 90's. I have it on my boat and have had some trouble finding
replacement fittings when I re-plumbed the water heater. There are some
websites which still carry these products, but it's being re

We recently replaced the shower head with one with a water saving on off
function. But it does make the hose leak a bit. When I finished my shower I
neglected to turn off the water and the hose leak into the bilge was causing
the cycling.

Our system is as you describe and is a Qest system. Do a Google on "qest
fittings". It is old technology but perfectly good. It is carried locally
by some RV and hardware stores, but not all

Russ,
This is exactly the right stuff. Qest sounds very familiar too. Thanks

I'm surprised that is the case, unless one tank has significantly more water or
is higher or has a filter or some such difference than the other yielding a
higher head pressure to the pump. This would give a shorter run time and might
seem to change the leak-down time. Blah blah etc. it's Sunday

If the pump cycles and you aren't opening any water users, shower, faucets,
etc., there are only two possibilities, a leak in the discharge side of the
pump or leakage through the check valves in the pump itself.
If you can somehow deadhead the discharge of the pump before any faucets and it

So my water pump cycles on and off more often with one tank vs the other. But
given that the cycling problem would be downstream of the pump am I missing
something?

Jonathan,
I still have a lot of that on my boat. For any new connections, I'm using
PEX tubing and connectors. It's easier to work with, bends easily, and is
widely available. The RV store near me stocks a lot of fittings and is easy
to work with.

Hi Jonathan,
Try talking polybutylene fittings at a good hardware shop. I've got a
box with Qest fittings from old boat projects (I mean ancient 80s stuff)
Do the fittings look like this?

I am not sure if the fresh water system on Indigo is original - it consists of
grey, hard plastic (PVC?) piping and similar colored compression fittings. I am
trying to locate spare parts - specifically a compression fitting to connect
the cold water supply (pressure side) to the faucet in the h
Another approach is to use colored chalk. Dark color works best. Scribe a
line around bilge perimeter. Water leaking will remove the chalk at that
point. If needed, make additional chalk lines upstream until source is

The outlet should not reduce the full capacity of the pumps working in tandem.
I believe a single line outlet might just do that. It also puts all your
pumping outlet eggs in one basket (failures happen).

Thanks for your input.
I know that there is only one intake in the bilge; so after your
advice, I will now set about to re-plumb them separately. I still
may feed them to one thru-hull, however.I would envision making
up a fitting from a "Y" where the single line is connected to the
