Getting OT, please help me understand what Mailscanner does - offlist
probably would be best.
I'm currently running Postfix/ClamAV/SpamAssassin on a relatively low-volume
mail server, calling via procmail. What benefits would I get by using
Mailscanner or Amavis-ne

You can get Mailscanner - Spamassassin - ClamAV to work with sendmail, but I
just prefer postfix better. The conf file is easier to understand.
The mailscanner web site has some good docs on building with sendmail.
