That's why I wrote PATH, with caps, not path.
# echo $path
# echo $PATH

If you type "echo $PATH" you will see that the search path is not the
same for you as an ordinary user and you as super user.
I typed echo $path and got a blank.
Find the freshclam binary by using "locate freshclam" or this:
# rpm -qa | grep clam
clamav-0.75.
