Hi,
I have write an email with clamav-20030424/test/test2.zip as an
attachment, but clamscan, clamdscan und clamd asys, that the file is OK
and can not find the test signature. I have enabled mailbox scanning in
the clamav.conf file.

Please wait for 0.55 or try the latest snapshot
(http://clamav.elektrapro.com/snapshot). It should be more stable, but the stacksize
is too small, so you
may need to edit clamd/server.c and increase it. This will be fixed in the
next snapshot.

Hi!
This has already been diskussed many times, but how many of those 77.000
viruses are actually distributed by email, which is the primary usage
for ClamAV? How many of those 77.000 viruses hava actually been seen the
latest decade?
The ClamAV database only includes newer viruses, that has b
It's updated several times a week.
And I have heard that there is going to be group updating the sig db
soon and this will give it a boost in the right direction.
Try running it along side a commercial scanner.
See how it performs.

Checking for a new database - started at Thu Apr 24 14:33:15 2003
Database updated (containing in total 7770 signatures).
(Just installed ClamAV last Thursday)
Note, also, that the simple expedient of adding .vbs and .js to your
'automatically deny' list will stop the vast majority of what passes
Does anybody have any ideas?

Thank you!
Why is the date listed below more than 5 months old?
Ok... so I guess there's quite a large discrepancy... most commercial AV
have tens of thousands of signatures. For example, RAV has 77000 signatures.
Is there any chance that clamAV will "catch up" anytime soon?
Thanks again.

Opps the sig file of db2 is around 7700
No idea what is in DB1 at the moment.
Why don't you install and have a go.
Very easy to do.

Hello David.
I see you're out there. ;-) But do you know the answer to my original
question...?
How many virus signatures does clamav have, how reliable is it, how often
does its database get updated?
I'm trying to compare it to commercial alternatives.

Yep, It's just that there are only a few people on the list.
The virus up dates are done quite regularly it appears, and new viruses
are added very quickly when sent in.
Well they were for me.
