This is the result of many distributions removing python2 based packages from their repositories. There is a flatpak which has worked great for a number of users on recent Ubuntu/Fedora distributions. Check the thread back in May at http://intrepid.danplanet.com/pipermail/chirp_users/2020-May/0

CHIRP (as of daily-202000603) is having errors “cloning” a new Baofeng UV-82 High Power using a Baofeng USB cable (both purchased through Amazon). The errors occur on both a 2012 Mac Pro running Mojave 10.14.6 and 2012 MacBook Pro running Catalina 10.15.. On the Mac Pro, I always get the error

Pat; No confusion at all.  You can easily run Chirp on Ubuntu 20.04 and then on Mint 20 when its released.  Just install Python 2.7, edit your sources list.  Everything is back up and running.  You actually should at least try 20.04, it has quite a few new changes.  Worth the  install. On 6
