Ran it on the first PC that was purchased by my company - IBM 8011 dual floppy
if I recall correctly. We had to say it was test equipment and not a computer
to get the invoice approved.

I believe VisiCalc and SuperCalc were contemporaries from the early '80s
until the mid-'90s. I ran my first spreadsheets on an Apple II+ and
then "graduated" to one of those Compaq "portables" about the size of a
suitcase. They had no hard drives, two floppy-disk drives, and a 4" x

That's partially correct.
FRS/GMRS still requires FCC Part 95 certified radios and the UV-5R isn't.

Bought this UV5R (UV5R7W) at the Hamvention this past May. So, aside from
this HT having a receiver front end that's susceptible to harmonics from DC

Hi,
It's been a while since I've changed any settings in Chirp, but isn't there an
auto-detect option rather than selecting a model?
If so, see what it says it is.

All radios made after about 2012 show BFB298 even though they really
have other versions.
Somebody will have to correct me but I think all UV-5R style 7 or 8 W
three power level radios have to use BF-F8HP Chirp radio model.

Glen,
I might be mistaken, but I believe the "auto-detect" option is limited
to Kenwood radio models.

Jim,
I'll probably pass on requesting a fix unless I find something else of more
significance. Chirp seems to otherwise work fine so will just keep using it
as-is. I really appreciate the UV-5R background, at least now I'm not thinking
I've gone nuts not being able to figure this "simple" rad
