These are not actually issues, but more a security actions taken by Windows.
Changing non standard extensions is a bit of a pain, but not uncommon.

Yeah, a buddy and I just experienced the Gmail issue as well. I think we
ended up sending to each other via drop box or something like that. Lame.

CHIRP file to a gmail email. The CHIRP file extension is *.img; I can
rename it to have a *.txt file name and then gmail will allow it to be
attached to an email.
